Mac Tours 10 VLT 281

Edinburgh Tours Limited 10 VLT 281, an AEC Routemaster R2RH built 1960 with a Park Royal PO39/32RD stands on the Lawnmarket in Edinburgh. Monday 16th November 2009

 

Note, VLT 281 was originally owned and operated by the London Transport Executive as a 6/5RM5/6 class vehicle with the fleet number RM 281. The London Transport Executive was renamed the London Transport Board on 1st January 1963, and the London Transport Board was renamed the London Transport Executive on 1st January 1970. Control of public transport in Greater London passed to London Regional Transport on 29th June 1984, and bus operation passed to London Buses Limited on 29th March 1985 in preparation for bus deregulation. VLT 281 was converted to open top in March 1986. London Buses Limited was divided into twelve business units on 1st April 1989, VLT 281 being transferred to London Coaches Limited. It was extended in July 1990 by Kent Engineering being renumbered ERM 281 with the seating being altered from O36/28R to O39/32R. London Coaches Limited was renamed The Original Sightseeing Tour Limited on 30th December 1997, and The Original Sightseeing Tour Limited was renamed The Original London Sightseeing Tour Limited on 9th March 1998. VLT 281 was purchased by MacTours Limited in March 2002 as number 10 via the Ensign Bus Company Limited (a Purfleet based dealer), the seating being altered from O39/32R to PO39/32RD at some time before MacTours Limited operations passed to Edinburgh Tours Limited on 1st January 2007. VLT 281 was renumbered 300 in October 2012, and Edinburgh Tours Limited was renamed Edinburgh Bus Tours Limited on 22nd August 2013
