Principal Operations Researcher, Sasol Technology (Pty) Ltd
Michele Fisher embarked on a career in Operations Research after earning a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics at Queen’s University, Canada. Over the last 25 years she has tackled a range of problems in support of operations at the Department of National Defence in Canada, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in the Netherlands, on peacekeeping operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Afghanistan, and now for Sasol in South Africa. Her interests include peacekeeping and reconstruction, maritime and joint operations analysis, human resources modeling and logistics analysis. At Sasol, Fisher provides decision support in a complicated petrochemical environment through simulation modeling and other quantitative analysis techniques. She oversees workforce analytics and applications of system dynamics. In 2010 she became a Franz Edelman Laureate and was a member of the Sasol Chief Executive's Team of the Year. In 2006 she was awarded the Commander's Commendation for outstanding service to Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum and has received medals for support to peacekeeping operations.
