The Marker Hotel Grand Canal Square In Dublin Docklands

After remaining unoccupied for many years this white “checker-board” building in Grand Canal Square opened its doors as the Marker Hotel on April 2nd (2013). This was supposed to be a landmark building inspired by Ireland’s landscape "“The outside of the building reflects the pattern of the Giant’s Causeway, and there is a cave-like effect here in the lobby.” Described by the Sunday Times as a building which will "bring the champagne fizz back into architecture in Dublin", the hotel features a dramatic lobby designed as though "excavated from a seven storey rock". Maybe I am in the minority but the exterior finish looks like plastic rather than celtic rock.
