Video is okay in its own right, but I think should be kept separate. What I enjoy about flickr is that it has always glorified photography and photographers--which is what sets it apart from other websites. If they add another medium to express art, they may wind up with quantity over quality.

      I agree!

i also don't think flickr will ever be able to compete with all the video sites like youtube, google-video,, dailymotion etc.

i would prefer flickr to concentrate their efforts on improiving features for photo sharing, rather than going into the video business.

This is all a bit melodramatic. Especially considering the site's name is flickr, not photr >_>. From what I've seen on this site, it's already quantity over quality. Besides, there are plenty of photographers to pat each other on the back and tell each other how great they are, doesn't mean you have to watch the videos.

I understand you're upset, but isn't posting this image in these groups just spam?

I don't see it appropriate as a comment on a portrait. I don't see it as a Leica image, a green image, nor a blue image, nor about concentration camps, China, or any of the many pools you posted this too.

Nor do I see the end of the universe tightly coupled to Flickr hosting videos.

Have to agree with Katarina, too much drama. I agree if you ask to Flickr for an option to not see video in your account settings, as you can "hide" snapshots or CGI images, but Flickr is not taking off features, is adding new ones, and that's a good thing under my point of view.

I like the idea of putting maybe 20 photos into a video slideshow and showing them on flickr. Give it a chance. Simple solution, if you don't want to see a video then don't click on it.

I agree. That's what video websites are for.
