Maybe softening the lights, or playing with the contrast to erase the noise. Good mood to it though.

It's a bit too noisy for me, and the noise unfortunately doesn't add interest. I've tried to save shots like this in the past by converting to black and white and playing with contrast. Sometimes in black and white that noise becomes a really nice graininess. I'm not crazy about the keyboards behind him either, it's distracting.

Thanks for the feedback Anthony, Allen and ballulah. I really appreciate it! I will definitely try converting to B&W and fliddling a bit more with it.

I browsed through some of your other shots from that night, and it looks like you were quite faraway. That could be your problem. What kind of camera were you using? There's another shot in your stream that I like a lot, it's the same show from a different angle, and not quite so tight a crop...it's quite noisy, but there's dramatic lighting and the noise adds a lot of character. Let me go find it, and I'll comment there.

Hi ballulah! Yes, I was VERY far away at all times. Most of the "close up" shots are full zoom on my Canon S3 IS, handheld WAY over my head (flip out screen flipped down, so I knew what I was shooting.) Most of the shots are at ISO 800, which is very noisy on this class of camera. I used Neat Image to reduce the noise.

The big zoom, and the image stabilizer allowed me to get what I got.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them.

Our cameras are quite similar, but I have a Panasonic Lumix, and yours is a Canon. (I looked it up based on the tag.) Next time you're at a show, and you're using the zoom, try switching to manual mode or shutter priority and speed up the shutter quite a bit to cut down on noise and blur. I also find that at full zoom on mine, the image starts to break up...if I pull off just a little it helps.

Thanks for the advice ballulah! I'll definitely try it out next time.
