snow + dirt =snirt! (v 2.1)

    Newer Older

Windblown snow and black dirt combined to make what is locally known as "snirt". Changes in wind velocity and direction have moved and carved the snirt into interesting patterns. I love this stuff.

Found and photographed on an overcast day alongside hwy 281 in NE Rolette County, ND.

We have had heavy snow already , 9" on the hill where I was, but not enough to see this, not enough accumulation yet but we will see that kind of sculpture later in the winter. (Western NY)

Never heard of "snirt" before but it sure fits. Never tried to name it more then dirty snow, lol

Lol... "snirt", I love it! Makes me long for the days of 50 mph sideways snowfall south of Dickinson...

Great shot Rick. It would look lovely framed and hung in a gallery or a home. Snirt is a nice new word for me. :-)

Really neat stuff. Reminds me of the sand terrariums we used to make as k ids.
