Wild West Wholly Wood. Cold Dead Limbs - IMRAN™ (iPhone Photo) — 750+ Views!
I did not have to work hard to pry this image from the cold, dead limbs of the wooden characters and their fallen comrade in the Wild(erness of) West Spinnaker Lane at Heron Pointe. Like a WhollyWood thriller, this was shot entirely on location at my home (non)studio. :-) I liked how some stumps to the left and top of the picture provide a rectangular real "wood frame" for the photo.
So, you wonder....
When a tree falls, not in fall but in winter, not in the woods but next to a home, does it make a sound? Probably, snap, crakcle, pop and crash, but it was drowned out by the blizzard's winds that passed through Long Island, New York, recently.
I was amazed at how bright and wet the inside of the fallen tree's trunk looked compared to the dull woods around it. It almost looked like it was shining in the invisible sunset light that was hidden by clouds.
The iPhone 3GS did a remarkable job of capturing the wild shockingly bright wetness of the split tree trunk. I think it soaked a lot water from the falling snow it was exposed to for 3 days. Botanists or tree huggers may be able to give a better explanation.
The photo was not cropped. It was opened in iPhoto to adjust (Reduce Highlights) the whitish sky to be less bright so the branches in the top left will show. Photoshop was only used for framing and makes it stand out more.
