Mountaineering in the Caucasus - July 2019
On July 5th 2019 Mike Chen and I climbed to the 18,510 feet (5642 m) summit of Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Russia and in Europe by the classic south side route among a group of 10 American and Russian climber organized by the 7 Summits Club. Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain of the Caucasus Range that divides Europe and Asia and forms the borders between Russia and Georgia. We stayed at Gara-Bashi huts for 3 nights at 3888m elevation during the climb. Afterwards we celebrated with a barbeque party in Cheget village and a horse ride through the Terskol Valley to Bridal Veil (Devichi Kosy) waterfall.
