Mulled Wine

Dedicated to Beverly Bartlett, who gave us a mulled wine recipe that we still use about 18 years later (with a few tweaks of course).

Recipe is:

Bottle of cheap red wine

1/4/ pint of water

2-3 oz Sugar

8 cloves

piece of Orange peel

piece of Ginger

2 cardamom pods

(to that original recipe we have added.. Star Anise, nutmeg and add the juice of an orange to about 5 bottles of wine)

You just heat Water juice & sugar until it's dissolved, add the wine and the spices (in a muslin sachet if you want to make retrieval easy) warm to very hot (not boiling).

Leave to sit (then hook out the spices) we re-bottle it at this point. When you fancy some, heat a couple of glasses worth up in the microwave (in a jug) and pour out.
