Dedicated to Writers, Writers who's imagination we share, their books lift us from the everyday even if only briefly in snatched pleasures.
Strobist: 38cm lastolite ezybox (softbox) overhead and slightly infront angled in (camera right here as picture is rotated 90 deg CW) sb80dx in it @24mm pwr 1/32 - 1/16, pen held by Justin clamp on a gorilla pod in flat fronted vase of water sitting on white card curved up behind like seemless.
Lessons learned: 1) When working with vases full of water the displacement volume of one's hand is a sufficiently irritating amount to clear up off the table (use tweezers / tongs to retrieve sumberged fountain pen..)
2) A pencil as setup substitute for pen is straight sided and is held in place nicely by Justin clamp jaws, not so a fountain pen, who's pleasingly curved barrel offers less friction, which is catastrophically overcome a short moment after placing it within said clamp jaws. The potential energy stored in the jaws spring is thus transferred to the pen/projectile endowing it with a fair amount of kinetic energy.
