Seoul Olympic Park - 서울 올림픽 파크 - Korea - 090503
The Olympic Park is located in Bang-i-dong, Songpa-gu and the park was decided to be built on April 1968 following the City Facility Plan. The total area is 1,976,370 m2 and the park area is 1,447,127 m2.
The Seoul Olympic Park was completed on May 1986 and it has become one of the tourists' attractions popular in Seoul.
The park is comprised of the Mongchon Fortress, six stadiums for the 1988 Olympic games, the Park for the Displaying Arts in Commemoration of the Olympic Games, and the Olympic Sculpture Park.
The Mongchon Fortress is a moated castle with mud wells around the castle and wooden enclosures on the north. The fortification is located on a natural hill surrounded by the mountains.
The fortification's purpose was to intercept the enemies' advance from the north. The fortification has a variety of prehistoric remains such as dwelling sites, vase tombs, and reservation hollows. The fortification also has ceramics, weapons, fishhooks, and stone mortars from the Baekjae Dynasty and has become a valuable site for historical studies of the Baekjae Dynasty.
