Labidomera clivicollis taking flight
People have been very kind in their comments on this photo. Thank-you! This shot was taken at Selkirk Provincial Park on the shore of Lake Erie on the weekend before Canada Day. Individuals of this variety of ladybug were quite common on the water rushes near the shore (as with this one).
I don't usually like to include myself in the photos of insects that I take, but this one was moving rather a lot. I had picked it up in the hopes of moving it to a good place for a photo but realized that it was wanting to move on. It so happened that just as I was taking the shot our little friend here was taking off. The fact that focus, lighting, and timing all came together so well in this shot was a happy coincidence.
Things that I like about this shot include the transitional movement, the view of the head and jaws, the dangling legs, and the outer and inner wings.
