MacRae's View

    Newer Older

I hiked out to MacRae Peak on Grandfather Mountain Friday morning. It stayed pretty overcast the whole morning and was quite windy up on top of the mountain. The last time I did this hike it was clear blue skies so I was actually kind of glad it wasn't completely clear again.

Pretty shot Daniel! I agree, the fog is nice.

Very nice! I'm planning on hiking up there this coming weekend, unless they close the top due to thunderstorms.

Heck of a view from up there. I like the look of the winding road.

I agree, the fog is certainly a nice change of pace from a clear blue sky! This is really nice!

Excellent view and the mist added to the mood and shot.

I like the soft light and the alpine look of the rock outcropping. Excellent shot Daniel. I didn't make it up there for dollar days.

Oh I love it up there and it has been awhile. Look to one side and unsightly clutter with the ski lodge, and the parkway side beautiful mountains that go on forever. I have yet to be up there on a day I'd call a "10" but have been on a "7". See any Pink Shell?

      Thanks everyone.
Jeff Hammond I saw some that had not started blooming yet, looked to be about a week or so away. I had seen some Pink Shell Azalea around the Parkway near Grandfather Mountain the week before but I think that little cold snap we had got those.

The Pinkshells had started blooming the weekend before the freeze, but the cold weather hit them. I got a picture on the 22th, but the petals had all wilted and turned brown when I checked back on that spot on the 28th. Hopefully enough buds survived the frost for a second bloom.

Yea the ones I saw that hadn't bloomed out yet were on top of the mountain so they should be blooming out pretty soon I'd say.
