19 rescue boats turned over by NDRRMC to Ilocos Norte

June 18, 2012

The National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council today turned over 19 rubber boats with outboard motor and accessories to LGU’s in Ilocos Norte to be used for rescue operations during disasters.

Turned over by Undersecretary Benito Ramos of the OCD,the rubber boats were received by Governor Imee Marcos, Chairman of the Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council and Mayors representing the 19 flood prone municipalities.

The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement, blessing and turnover of the rubber boats were held during a simple ceremony in front of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Capitol.

Gov. Marcos said that aside from being used in disaster rescue operations, the rubber boats would also aid in the province’s combat against illegal fishing.

Ilocos Norte has been identified as a recipient of this donation from the NDRRMC as it is one of the disaster-prone regions in the country.

Since typhoon season has officially begun, Ilocos Norte has been increasing efforts in disaster preparedness. The Provincial Planning and Development Office has been disseminating news alerts on Ilocos Norte’s official website www.ilocosnorte.gov.ph to prepare residents on what to do during calamities.

Low-lying communities, including the towns of Bacarra, Dingras, Paoay, San Nicolas, Solsona and the city of Laoag, are at the center of the province’s attention on account of the constant flooding they experience during typhoon season
