Women farmers in Guzhai village

In Guzhai village in China, also in Guang Xi, indigenous women farmers have been experimenting with planting many different types of crops. Conserving and using crop biodiversity can help manage climate change impacts, such as extreme weather events. Women farmers from this village established a community farming cooperative.

During the pandemic, mutual support among members helped everyone enjoy an adequate income, despite market price fluctuations. Community members who lost their jobs in the cities during the pandemic were also supported.

Above, two women harvest Chayote fruits and vines to make nutritious meals for their family.
