Tools for Adaptation: Radio & Phone Apps - A case for Mt Elgon in North Eastern Uganda

This poster describes IUCN to developed two innovative ways to inform local people.

In 2014 IUCN produced an interactive radio campaign that delivered capacity building and outreach on forest landscape restoration. As a result over 18,000 households adopted climate smart agriculture, households gained increased income and 320 hectares of riverbanks have been restored.

Together with ICRAF developed a mobile phone application called "Africa Tree Finder", which helps farmers plant the right tree species in the right place. Over 200,00 trees have been planted.

The poster concludes that integrating radio and mobile phone apps with indigenous knowledge is an effective and user-friendly solution for filling knowledge gaps that hinder adaptation efforts.

This poster is published by the international Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Uganda) in collaboration with Farm Radio International and the World Agroforestry Centre. The poster is for display at the 11th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA10) in Kampala, Uganda from 26-29 June 2017.
