1971 Ford Falcon Maverick (Mexico) p1

    Newer Older

When Ford of Mexico first introduced the Maverick for MY 1971, it was badged as the "Falcon Maverick". The only engine offered was the Mexican 289 V8.

Interesting... even though it's a '71 brochure it only shows coupes. Maybe the sedan was called just "Falcon" and the "Maverick" label reserved for coupes?

I'm thinking that the sedan may have been delayed in Mexico, like it was in the States.

Exactly. The same happened in Mexico. When the sedan was introduced, Ford dropped the Falcon name, calling it the Ford Maverick...

Do you know what year the Falcon Maverick was introduced in Mexico? Either 1970 or 1971 I assume. Were the Maverick coupe and the Falcon Sedan on the market at the same time? If so, this brochure is probably a 1970 model.

I was introduced about the second semester of 1970 as 1971 model. For 1970, Ford still sold here the Falcon, and both the Falcon and the Falcon Maverick were in the market at the same time until the beginning of 1971.
