Tiananmen Square with Mao's supersized portrait is not only a tourist site for Westerners but for Chinese travellers, too. And of course for both of them Tiananmen Square has a strong symbolic meaning, although perhaps not the same for all of them...
btw: When visiting China, I was puzzled how many Chinese were travelling their country. I soon learned that traveling and visiting relatives that are (or became) spread all over this vast country is part of the Chinese culture.
and this: you will realize that - with some exceptions - most of my chinese pictures are of "journalist"-nature and not particularly "nice" pictures to collect favs and views. Still, I hope to create interest for this fascinating country and to allow you some insight into some aspects of Chinese live (although filtered through my perception and limited to my experiences of a three weeks journey only).
