Yarl's Wood Protest.

On Saturday 8th August 2015 hundreds of people travelled from all over the country to surround Yarl's Wood Detention Centre and demand the closure of the remote Immigration Removal Centre located in Bedfordshire. There have been reports of poor conditions and bad treatment of those who have been detained in the centre often indefinitely, with no clear indication of how long they will remain imprisoned within the heavily fenced building, situated in the middle of nowhere.

Yarl's Wood is specifically for women and adult family groups. On their website the following words can be found: "Respect, Support, Commitment. That's our promise."

Yet this is a far cry from what those detained on the other side of the fence experience. We heard from women who were detained, who told us of poor healthcare and conditions, women on valid visas being detained and a feeling of fear and suffering.
