Þorlákshöfn (pop. 1800) is one of the youngest towns in Iceland, established around 1950. It is named after Iceland's only recognized saint, St. Thorlak. It is a thriving town, as it is one of few harbours on the south coast, which is dominated by shifting volcanic sands.
