A Jagged Landscape. By Ian Layzell

The Stiperstones.

The Stiperstones is located in South-West Shropshire and is a spectacular 10km ridge rising to 536 metres above sea level.

The Stipersones used to be an unbroken ridge of purple heather heathland stretching for 10km. Since the 1940's grassland and conifer plantations have boken this purple stretch.

A project called "Back to Purple" was set up in the year 1988 and aims to restore some of this beautiful land to purple heath.
