Broken Screen.

Always, *always* make sure you pack your laptop right.

I had packed this in it's original MacBook box coming back from a trip (had to check it, damn travel limitations!), and I packed it in the middle of my bag with plenty of padding.

Or at least I thought I did.

Something hit my bag juuuuuuust right, and it cracked my screen and now my display is ruined. :(

Luckily for me I have other Macs so I can use ScreenShare to do what I have to do.

Anyone know how much it costs to replace the display in one of these? :s

Poor Jade. :(

Probably the cost for a new MacBook. I remember seeing a MacBook @Apple store and they quoted a price $500-700.

when I had my MBP's screen replaced, the bill shows it would have been $788 if I hadn't had applecare. :(

When I talked to Apple, they quoted me a number quite similar to that! I was none too pleased, I found a place that can send me the screen, and I can do it myself, but there's a hell of a lot I have to remove to fix it. :\

oh, ouch! but you can do it! I've done it on Dells, and it wasn't so bad. ;)

By a used MBP at geeks.com or craigslist and use this one as a desktop and for the same money as replacing the screen you have two computers. Use Firewire and you can boot either to the other...
