Salt Ponds, San Francisco Bay (1)
Salt ponds, south San Francisco Bay. Photographed from Airship Ventures Zeppelin NT N704LZ, July 30, 2009.
Salt is produced by evaporating water from the San Francisco Bay in confined ponds. The distinctive yellow, orange and red colors come from algae that thrive in the highly saline environment.
