Spoonbill showing off its bill
Latest - 21 June - thanks to flickr's stormbird, who works at the RSPB's Titchwell reserve, I now know that this Spoonbill was ringed as a nestling near Sevilla, Spain, in April 2007. It was first seen in England last September in North Devon, and has been in Norfolk since April of this year.
I hope it stays in Norfolk for a time - we had Spoonbills breeding at Holkham, not far from Titchwell last year.
I have previously only seen these birds from a distance, so had not realised that their bills were so interestingly marked.
This very visitor-friendly Spoonbill was feeding close to the main path, in the corner of the freshwater lagoon at the RSPB's Titchwell reserve.
Two leg rings on this Spoonbill - one marked FJ9, the other including the number 0263.
