Queen Mary 2 has left Svitzer Sarah and sails on past Hythe Pier and Eastern Docks towards a waiting position at the northern end of Western Docks. The just-rising Sun is throwing glorious pink into the sky which is turning deeper for a moment.

In what was expected to be the biggest celebration outside London, Cunard synchronised the itineraries of their three ships to meet at and sail along Southampton Water together in formation at dawn on Tuesday June 5th.

Queen Mary 2 (QM2) led the way, passing Lepe at 4am then turning to port to pass Calshot Spit fifteen minutes later. Queen Victoria was following the same route about ten minutes behind. Queen Elizabeth took another twenty five minutes to reach the mouth of Southampton Water at about 4:50am.

Ten minutes earlier, QM2 was met by Svitzer Sarah which provided the water display for the incoming cruise fleet. QM2 passed Hythe Pier at 4:45am then overshot both Eastern Dock and most of Western Dock to loiter at the far end of the waterway. Once the other two ships had come alongside bow-to-bow near City Terminal, QM2 slowly sailed past to achieve a three-way bow formation before continuing south to Eastern Dock and Ocean Terminal.
