雷門 Thunder Gate

Taken in Asakusa, Tokyo.

Thunder Gate or Kaminari-mon in Japanese, is the outer gate to the Senso-ji complex

(the previous shot in my photostream). Contained inside are large wooden statues of the Buddhist deities Fujin - Wind God, right and Raijin - Thunder God, left.

I wanted to try and get a slightly different view point from the regular tourist ones, so here I'm standing on the grille of a raised subway ventilation shaft in the street's central reservation. Throughout, I expected that Bobby to tell me to get down (they usually do in Japan) but he was cool.

I have another colour shot of this taken with my old compact. Seen here.
