those were the days
in the elevator lobby of the washington post, there is a wall of photos. this is by far my favorite. it was taken while bob woodward, right, and carl bernstein, left, were consulting with katharine graham about the watergate scandal. i love the look on ms. graham's face: concerned, almost motherly. what a great woman, and what a great era in journalism this was. at this point, the two reporters were young and virtually unknown, and many people were still testing katharine graham. i think it is safe to say she passed every test, as all three would become giant, heroic figures in journalism. these are the folks responsible for me choosing my career, though i was just a little boy then.
