Novara Prototype eVent Jacket

Rode with Steve Gluckman today and he wore a Novara Prototype eVent

Jacket. In stores Fall 2010 for under $200.00, the final details and

colors will change. 2-way zipper, breast pocket, and reflective piping

complete the jacket.

I wore the Hincapie Signature eVent jacket with an iBex base layer and

was warm to cool during a Seattle 40 degree drizzly day. Modulated

temp with the zipper and remarkably arrived home dry. No sweat through

on a brisk tempo ride.

Impressive.

Say no to another yellow cycing jacket. Grey would be fine.

Agreed. That's not the expected color. The Novara has more features and a tail. Color is an issue with eVent I learned. Also eVent has been around just not directed at performance or commuters yet.

Grey would be fine? really Andrew? I suppose I'd feel comfortable wearing grey in the middle of the peloton on a closed race course but in the low light, sheeting rain, sucky conditions I ride in I've never once rolled from my house thinking I'd like my jacket to be less visible... p.s. there's a reason you see so many bright cycling jackets out on the streets people vote with their $

What are you from the yellow jacket lobby? Hincapie definitely needs to work on the visibility of their products and that's with more luminescent materials. Novara plans to tone down the bright-banana yellow with a contrasting panel once it hits production.

Regarding dollars spent and presumptively commuters v. racers, every bike racer I know commutes -- it's how they get all the miles to compete. Us cyclists have more in common that we think and the one jacket you see everywhere which will totally sweat out is Tyvek, courtesy of Cascade.

Ironically the non-racers wear a kit too, it's a bright yellow jacket . . . and the ride in packs, just not two abreast in pacelines. They may not pedal in anger or put a number on, to show a clean pair of wheels across the line, but commuters are every bit as competitive.

I know this because they race me on Alaskan Way every chance they get.

doesn't Showers Pass use the eVent fabric material as well?

they make a decent orange color that is not as loud as yellow or green but still seems to work well for visibility.

the REI jacket looks like it has potential!

Yes Showers Pass does have an eVent and REI has the Shuksan.

REI has had a eVent running jacket available for a year or so, called the "Airflyte." It comes in black, blue, and red, if you don't like the rain slicker yellow of the bike jacket. And it's also forty bucks cheaper.
