Hazard 2 Main St
Lots of stuff here. The building at right is a former bank building and this is where my father opened his first store. His partner was Mr. Fuller, so it was called Fuller-Murrill Co. His next store, about a block away had a classier name . . Julian's.
The building at left was the IGA, a grocery that was famous for its donut making machine.
In the center is the "Taxi Alley." In the 1940's, Hazard had lots of Taxis. You could get to Hazard by bus or trrain, but to go out into the coal camps, you might need a taxi, and they were based down that alley. It was conveniently located about half way between the bus station and the train depot.
One Taxi company was owned by a man named Igo. His motto was "You call, I go."
