Another one of my wife's grandmother Anna, with her sister Simone and their husbands. Out for a bike ride in strangely smart clothes.
** Update - we worked out where this photo was taken during the xmas break, 2004. Behind the cyclists is the road into Plancher Bas. About where the 2nd telegraph pole (on the right) is, there is now a pizzeria called La Martina, which is a favourite place of mine (they cook the pizza in a proper wood-burning oven). And on the left, a factory has recently been built.
The low wall on the right is actually part of a bridge over the river. And just ahead of the cyclists is a Z bend, two 90 degree turns in the road, which is a famous spot because some French general totalled his car there - drove straight on into the river and died. There's now a plaque commemorating this event where the low wall in the photo is.
Incidentally, it's a sad sign of progress that you couldn't take a photo like this on the same spot in the road these days - never in a million years.
