sam bell's mushroom house

Perhaps the coolest house in San Diego - Sam Bell, potato chip baron, had this beach house built in 1965. Dale Naegle (architect) designed the home, which is located on the beach just north of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

 

I have no idea who owns it now, but it's got a little elevator that goes up the side of the cliff to a larger house. It looks like something out of planet of the apes.
