Deep Fried Ice Cream
A longtime staple of Chinese restaurants in Western countries.
There's something charming about Chinese restaurants in regional towns. In some places it is the only 'decent' takeaway. These desserts have remained on menus for years, providing proud local businesses with a steady stream of loyal customers.
For me, satisfaction comes from knowing that I have supported the local economy, and that these places (as well as the ice cream parlour; there seems to be one in every other town!) will be frequented by road trippers for a long time.
Vanilla ice cream, coconut crumb, and caramel sauce.
