Pepper Farming

Seidu Sambollah, a borrower from the Liberian microfinance institution the Local Enterprise Assistance Program (LEAP), picks fresh chili peppers at his farm in Cape Mount County, on April 28, 2010. Seidu has been borrowing from LEAP for two years and says he uses his loan money to support his farming activities -- he also grows bitter ball and eggplant -- and to contract with freelance workers to produce palm oil at a plantation in his community. The peppers and other crops he raises are sold at area markets, and are sometimes transported and sold in markets in the Liberia's capital Monrovia.
