VIP exclusive minifigs

I actually really liket he Fisherman, but not enough to get more than one. I really wish they did come out with some better figs. I actually love the Spartan and sadly I don't even have a Zombie. I also do think it is very weird how all of these are from Series 3, and it sucks since that is the one Series that I have the most of.
  • darthperson 3y

    Nobody buy this.
  • sorax 3y

maybe it was the top 5 of each series
  • Carson Hart 3y

darthperson You can't really force people not to buy this.
sorax Yah but all of these are from Series 3... so that doesn't really make sense.

Meh, I wished they had put in a spartan, samurai and a Zombie. Looks like I will pass on this.
  • 4 Diamonds 3y

I agree. I wouldn't get this. Based on past experience, LEGO will probably use cheap plastic, too. Either way, I got two fishermen from the same box just by guessing.....

A lot of people seem pretty peeved about this selection. I, for one, am a bit disappointed that all of the figs are from series 3 when the voting had included all of the first three series, but at the same time the figs included seem decent enough. Meanwhile, it's not that hard to acquire Series 1 and 2 minifigure parts since those have begun to show up in Build-A-Mini stations at LEGO stores, so the Bricklink price of those shouldn't remain excessive forever.

Of these figs, the fisherman is the only one for whom there's no value in army building. I can easily see how these figs were the most popular in the voting out of Series 3 minifigures. The elf is obvious, the Gorilla Suit Guy was fairly popular, the fisherman was (at the time of voting) the rarest fig, the Space Villain has a lot of classic appeal, and the Mummy, which a lot of people seem to dismiss, was at the time the collectible minifigure with the most printing-- face, arms, sides of legs, front of legs, front of torso, and back of torso.

I'm a bit puzzled by the changes in colors. The only ones I can make out are the Fisherman's hat and fish and the Mummy's scorpion, and these all seem to be changed to colors that are more common, not less. Overall, for someone who got most of the Series 3 minifigures, there's not much collectible value to this purchase, unless it's put in fancy "display packaging" like the Vintage Minifigure Collections.

Finally, while a lot of people consider this a letdown, I hope this doesn't discourage TLG from making more VIP-exclusive offers in the future. I suppose if the Mini Modulars are successful they could make up for any lackluster sales on this item.

I am a VIP, and I was never asked to vote on this, or anyone else that I know. LAME, LAME, LAME, LAME!
  • Silver Fox57 3y

VIP were asked to vote? I don't recall that either.

Of the line up above, only the elf is a winner for me. I've got plenty of the fisherman. Maybe one more Gorilla suit guy would be nice. I don't care for the rest.

The original email I got about the vote was on 11th July, so it definitely took place (I voted in it myself).

Saying that, the results are pathetic. It's obvious that they didnt have enough leftovers from series 1 and 2 to fulfil this vote, so they went for the runners up: Series 3. Which in my opinion so far has been the poorest series of them all.

I agree with many of you in that LEGO did a poor job in selecting the figures to put in this pack. I already have tons of Series 3 anyway, because they had 5 or 6 boxes of them for $1 each. If LEGO was not able to fufill what fans asked for and what they had promised, why did they even bother making this?

I'm absolutely sure that these were all picked by kids under 5.

What a cheek! No Zombies? Sure, they say "wherever possible", which means in other words: "We don't give anything about what FOLs really want, we just want to get rid of our surplus production."
I'm sure sales will be low and I hope TLC learns from this.

I was not contacted either as a VIP member :(
  • sorax 3y

elf and gorilla are all i would get if it isn't expencive
  • Stalker Pro 3y

Zombie was obviously better than the mummy

    Thorsten Bonsch I hope so

All these from season 3 only. Sigh... I expected at least one of the following from series 1: Zombie, Robot, Forestman, Ninja, Spaceman, Caveman. From Series 2: Spartan. I personally like that they included the elf and the space villain ( I love classic space/Blacktron). If this was a series 3 only pick instead, then the choices are not too horrible. I would have swapped out the fisherman with the space alien though. It really looks like an inventory dump than anything else. A complete recoloring of all the minifigs would have been great instead of a token part.
  • Fritz4783 3y

They probably chose them all from series three since that series did so poorly. It lasted the longest and was still readily available when series four was out.
  • Gregorovich9 3y

^ but Series 6 are still readily available, and Series 7 has been out for a couple of months.
