4-4-0 LSWR X2 Class No 577
The LSWR X2 class was a class of express passenger 4-4-0 steam locomotives designed for the London and South Western Railway by William Adams. Twenty were constructed at Nine Elms Locomotive Works between 1890–1892. 577 was the first of the class built in 1890. All the class survived until the early 1930's before being withdrawn.
The picture was taken near Wimbledon. The building behind the loco has several businesses including Truckle & Sons, who were based at 4 Hartfield Road, Wimbledon between 1884 and 1900. The Prince of Wales Hotel/Pub on the left is still on Hartfield Road today.
This photo was taken from an old original photo we came across while helping to clear the house of a deceased friend. I have uploaded it to Flickr in the hope that it might be interesting to steam enthusiasts.
