Tugboat “Venus” Escorting Tank Landing Ship LST-1077

Black and white image of tank landing ship LST-1077 departing the Bethlehem-Hingham Shipyard under escort by the tugboat "Venus" on the aft starboard side of the ship. Another tugboat at right leads the ship. A strip of land is seen in left distance. Photo appears to have been taken near Peddocks Island, perhaps by Hull Gut. Embossed on front of photo: “Official photograph/Not to be Released for Publication.” Stamped on back, “Bethlehem-Hingham Shiphard/confidential. “ In handwriting on back, “Hull 3467, D-5, dated 4/19/45.” LST-1077 was later named U.S.S. Park County. It saw service in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It was later sold to the Mexican Navy and renamed ARM Rio Panuco. For more information about the Park County, see the article on Wikipedia.
