Cairn On The South Deeside Road, (B976) Between The 'Royal Warrant' Village Of Ballater & Balmoral Castle, Royal Deeside, Cairngorms National Park, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK.

The cairn commemorates the day that Queen Victoria (16th September 1899), out for a drive in her carriage from Balmoral Castle along the South Deeside Road met a contingent from the 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders preparing to go to war in South Africa. (Boer War) See the extra pictures of the cairn below.

The Battalion held an impromptu march past and inspection by Her Majesty of the troops and she wished them well. The cairn was erected by Sir Allan Mackenzie, Bart.
