A Gate Ball

You’ve heard the term “old ball and chain” before, probably in a derogatory way, but where does that saying come from? Perhaps it’s from this old-fashioned gate closer.

The cannonball “automatic” gate closer dates back to colonial times. If someone walks out of the yard, the weight of the ball and chain will pull the gate shut. This modern version is made from hot-dipped galvanized iron and is coated in a black polyester powder finish to keep rust from forming. It comes with a five-foot chain and looks to be pretty easy to attach. Don’t let your garden gate swing free in the breeze any more.
