The Evanghelical church from Feldioara, Brasov county, Tara Barsei / Transylvania, Romania
It is not by chance that the German (Marienburg ) and Latin (Castrum Sancte Maria) name of the village refers to the Virgin Mary, the protector of the Teutonic Order. Between 1211-1225 the Teutonic Knights had established their center in Feldioara, building one of the most representatives fortresses ever built by this order in Transylvania. Later, the original structure of the fortress was modified by the colonists broughts by the knights as part of their colonization of the Burzenland region. Now, all that is left among the ruins is the north-side wall.
What you see in the picture is the evanghelical church built in gothic style on the ruins of the old 13th century basilica.
