HOWS supermarket was founded by the principals of the former Hughes chain in Southern California. The HOWS letters are the initials of the names.
The new Hughes managed to open five stores, with the North Hollywood one being their fifth. It's in a great location — up-and-coming, trendy and surrounded by plenty of foot traffic as it is near a transit hub.
After less than 3 years, HOWS is shutting down its North Hollywood location. A blog says Fresh & Easy is looking to reopen in its place.
HOWS will be back down to four stores when this closes around May 2010.
HOWS is clearing out its nonperishable merchandise, and it stopped stocking its hot case, salad bar and bakery.
