If this is the future of cycling I'll just walk thanks. The Mando Footloose is dubbed the first "hybrid" electric bike, meaning that there's no direct, mechanical connection between the cranks and the rear wheel. Like a diesel locomotive the cranks power a generator which charges a battery. The motor in the rear hub is then powered by the battery. Even using aerospace quality components (which they're certainly not) you'd be lucky to get much better than 50% efficiency. Compare that to well over 90% for even a dirty chain drive.
It's heavy too, as in so heavy I could barely lift the folded bike on the floor. 30kg?
All in all it's a design exercise that should and will remain an experiment.
