It's hard to believe, but this is a candid shot. I was across the street, and the girl's mother is just off the frame to the left.
Both the subject and the background are interesting in their own right, but - together - they make up a fairy tale: it is as if she just stepped out of the display and into reality. I would have composed such a scene, but I'm not that creative.
And, I have a little more to say on that subject....
My love for photography is deep, and this image represents why. Sometimes life gives us visual gifts. But, however wonderful, they are ever so brief. A piece of Art emerges and disappears - sometimes in a fraction of a second. But it WAS there, and it was beautiful.
In reality, this glance ended, and the girl and her mom continued down the road. Gone.
But, not for me. I had, with my awkward hunk of magnesium alloy, frozen time.
