Fate of Blodeuwedd

    Newer Older

Blodeuwedd is a character from Welsh mythology who was created from flowers to be the bride of a nobleman. But because she was not human, she had no soul and so, naturally, she deceived him and tried to kill him but failed. As retribution, he had her transformed into an owl because they are "the most despised of all birds".

This image is my contribution to the "Birds for Birds" charity event in aid of Woodlands Falconry in Wicklow. It is organised by my pal Melissa Hayward and you can follow it on facebook.

This is a composite (we only had one owl); the owl in the shot is a Great Grey owl called tiny and she behaved impeccably although we had to be quick as she hadn't really completed her training.

The model is the wonderful Rachel Lally.

1 AB800 @ 1/8th power in softbox lighting Rachel and Tiny (left).
1 AB800 in softbox @ 1/16th power lighting Tiny (right).
1 AB800 in 7" reflector high and right shooting through the smoke.

Several smoke bombs in the trees ;-)

HaruYume Thank You. We used smoke bombs from a joke shop. We put them in a kettle and waved it around in the background :-)
