Ocean Appreciation Celebration 8/21& 8/22 Santa Monica Pier Aquarium
Have you thanked the ocean lately for all it gives us?
With approximately 70 percent of the Earth’s surface covered with water, the ocean plays an integral role in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the way we make a living, just to name a few reasons it deserves praise. Celebrate at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium’s Ocean Appreciation Weekend August 21st and 22nd at the Aquarium.

Special presentations touching on the myriad ways the ocean impacts our lives—and the effect people have on the ocean—will be the focus of the weekend, with a special emphasis on the issue of climate change.

All are invited to participate in creating a sea monster made of plastic, aimed at educating Aquarium visitors about the dangers of single-use and common household plastics and the threat they pose to the marine environment. “Plastic: The Real Sea Monster,” an eco-art project of Surfrider Foundation, will be a work in progress throughout the weekend. In the end, the collaboration will result in a plastic sea monster for display in the Aquarium’s pollution corner.
