Operatic Nosebleeds

We were sitting in the very last row of the house. Row H of Ring 5 in case that means anything to you. No complaints from us since we got the special under 30 rate. 25$ to see a sold-out show that would've cost us at least 5X as much otherwise. Hurray for youth and its perks!

We actually had an excellent view of the stage. The new opera house rocks! The acoustics were fabulous too. This was taken near the exit during the intermission. We were actually sitting in the middle of the back so we couldn't see the orchestra section.

My friend Carol accompanied me for the Canadian Opera Company's latest offering, Mozart's Così fan tutte. I love this opera. Yes, the libretto included. I like opera buffa, even when it offends my modern senses.

The misogynist and xenophobic/racist undertones of the thing do irk me, but the music is enchanting. Besides, I'm willing to buy the idea that this fine piece of art is parody.

I thought the COC production was pretty darn good. Granted, I've never seen Così fan tutte live before so I have nothing to compare it too, but I was pretty alert and engaged throughout the whole 3+ hour performance. :P
