Kalu River Valley | Bamiyan | Afghanistan

Sunlight is a scarce commodity in the Hindukush Mountains. The steep valleys in the Bamiyan highlands see only a few hours of sunlight in the Summer and even less in winter. This makes farming options very limited, and locals have to depend on food purchases from the cities and faraway markets for food.

Here, the Kalu river flows just past the Hajigak Pass, in the Bamiyan province.
