Coyote Lake dam face
A classic case of a bird just wished into being. John Fox and I were trying to refind a Rufous-crowned Sparrow that we had just seen minutes before. We spotted a Rock Wren, and John mentioned that he would really like to see a Canyon Wren and we were talking through possible places to see one. And before 5 minutes had passed, John says "Hey, isn't THAT a Canyon Wren?" and hey presto, it was.
Have never seen one there before, and do not remember ever seeing one posted from there before. It was not making the wonderfully haunting Canyon Wren song, but it was making a sort of peep noise as it scurried around on the rocks. We walked down to the edge of the lake, to be able to shoot with the sun at our backs, and the wren was very cooperative. It was seen again today at the dam face by some other birders. Cool find, John!!
