McDonald's of Hawaii seems to be experimenting with a "Haupia Pie" (haupia being a creamy coconut dessert popular in the islands). I don't even like coconut, but I had to try one. The sweet filling and the crispy, salty crust is a nice combo. (But they ain't kidding with, "Caution: Filling Is Hot!") The haupia is runnier than I'd expected -- most haupia is like gelatin or thick pudding -- but still good. Definitely better than the "Taro Pie" they tried last year.

Leave it to McDonalds---wonder if they will have a Poi pie soon? (which I had when I was in HI and got food poisoning from it--I was the only one at the table to eat it--I guess there was a reason why no one was eating it!)

Why didn't they think of that before I left in 1995? Now I'm I just may have to make a trip back to Hawaii for the Haupia Pie....

Drewsmom: They already tried Taro Pie -- but the taro was in thick chunks, not poi-like in consistency.

I'll have to give it a try next month.
