Summer 2015 Paper Clay Symposium
June 24, 25, & 26, 2015

A unique collaboration with leading international paper clay artists Rebecca Hutchinson, Jerry Bennett and Graham Hay, this hands-on workshop provided an opportunity for students to explore and experience new approaches to sculptural forms and functional pottery using paper clay and other innovative materials.

Paper Clay is any clay body (i.e. stoneware, earthenware, porcelain) with processed cellulose fibers incorporated into it.

Students explored innovative construction techniques, how to make paper clay, bonding materials, texture and decoration techniques, problem solving related to repair work, rapid working with clay, reducing shrinkage and many other sculptural considerations.

During the three-day workshop, several kilns were fired due to the ability of paper clay to be fired wet.
