This is a soft toy depicting H’angus, the Hartlepool United Football Club mascot. Legend has it that Hartlepool's residents hanged a monkey during the Napoleonic wars because they thought it was a French spy. He made his debut on October 31st 1999 during Hartlepool’s FA Cup 1st Round win over Millwall. H’angus was famously elected mayor of Hartlepool in 2002.

“Carry On Collecting” is a project set up by the Museum of Hartlepool to collect objects which represent everyday life in the town and beyond, from the 1950s through to the present day. The collection also attempts to represent the diversity of the people of Hartlepool over the past 60 years.
